New Call for Proposals: Status of Women in Canada

Good Monday to you, Funds Fans!  Great news today for those of you interested in the advancement of women and girls within Canada’s social, political and economic realms.  Status of Women Canada has just opened a call for proposals entitled “Setting the stage for girls and young women to succeed.”  The purpose of this Call for Proposals is to solicit funding applications for projects that promote equality for girls and young women in Canada and support their advancement in two priority areas: leadership and decision-making roles; and economic security and prosperity. These projects include a number of predetermined elements that eligible organizations must address in their proposals.There are two project streams under this Call.  For both streams, the deadline is August 10th, 2012 and the maximum grant available is $200,000.  Projects may be up to 24 months in duration.

Engaging girls and young women in leadership roles:   The objective of this funding stream is to develop the capacity of girls and young women to identify and respond to specific barriers to their full participation in civic, political and community life in Canada and to support measures to respond to the under-representation of girls and young women in these sectors.  Projects under this theme will build partnerships and collaboration between individuals, communities and stakeholders to identify and respond to the specific barriers that girls and women face in participating in civic, political and community life. In concert with stakeholders at all levels, girls and young women will help identify the issues affecting their participation and expand their understanding of these issues. Girls and young women will also develop leadership skills and help deliver innovative girl-led strategies to overcome these barriers and positively impact their communities.

Under the Strengthening girls’ and young women’s economic prosperity project theme, the objective is to develop the capacity of girls and young women to identify and respond to specific barriers to fulfillment of their economic potential in Canada.  Projects under this theme will build partnerships and collaboration between individuals, communities and stakeholders to identify and respond to the specific barriers that girls and women face in fulfilling their economic potential. In concert with stakeholders at all levels, girls and young women will help identify the issues affecting their economic participation and expand their understanding of these issues with respect to future economic prospects. Girls and young women will also develop leadership skills and help deliver innovative girl-led strategies to overcome these barriers and positively impact their communities.

Who is eligible?  Incorporated not-for-profit and for-profit Canadian organizations with the mandate, experience, expertise and capacity to deliver the proposed project

Who is not eligible? Individuals, unions or co-operatives, Federal, provincial, territorial, municipal or Aboriginal governments or their agencies, School boards, hospitals or other organizations whose mandate was created by a government, Universities or colleges, including university- or college-governed institutes
