Farm and Food Safety: Calls for Proposals, RFP’s and Scholarships

Farm and Food SafetyHello again, Funds Fans!  As food safety is probably on everyone’s mind since the recall of beef products started last week, we’ve found a selection of programs geared towards farm and food safety that you may be interested in.

The Canadian Agriculture Safety Association (CASA) has opened up it’s FCC Ag Safety FundDeadline: October 25th, 2012.  Maximun Grant: $10,000.  The $100,000 FCC Ag Safety Fund helps charitable and non-profit groups deliver agriculture safety training to farmers and/or their workers across Canada either through direct training or a train the trainer model.  The grant is administered through a partnership between Farm Credit Canada (FCC) and the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) with an aim to keep farmers, their families, agribusiness operations and employees safe at work.

CASA has also issued a Request For Proposal: Canada FarmSafe Plan and Training Resources Marketing Plan Development.  Deadline: October 28th, 2012.  Maximum Value: $10,000 plus GST.  CASA wishes to explore different marketing and delivery options for the Canada FarmSafe Plan. Considerations include: how to interact with universities, colleges and consultants; how to provide training materials; the role of consultants; the role of auditors; recognition; and a profit model.  Other factors include: quality control of the delivery agent; maintaining records of participants; and fee schedule options.

The successful applicant will report to the Executive Director and will provide an interim report and final report according to the timeline framework identified in the proposal and acceptable by both parties.  Late proposals will not be accepted.  It is anticipated that the contract will be awarded as early as November 12th, 2012. It is expected that the completion of the marketing plan and deliverables will be submitted on or before January 31st, 2013.

For students, the British Columbia Food Protection Association (BCFPA) has recognized that it takes a combination of hard work and educational funding for most students to achieve their goal of a post-secondary education. That’s why they’ve developed a scholarship fund to help encourage student funding and interest in food protection in BC.  For 2012, two scholarships will be available in the amounts of $1500 and $1000 and will be awarded to two BCFPA student members who meet the criteria. Students selected to receive scholarship awards must attend a future BCFPA event to receive the Scholarship Award Certificate. It is intended that the 2012 Scholarship Awards will be presented at our Annual General Meeting in January 2013.  To be considered for the scholarship awards, please fill out the application form and e-mail your application and essay to the BCFPA Vice President at Applications must be submitted no later than November 30th, 2012.

Note: Students who are not currently members may submit their scholarship application with their membership application and fee.
