NOW OPEN: Opportunity Fund for People with Disabilities

Opportunities Fund now open!Welcome to Friday, Funds Fans!  We have some good news to take us into the weekend 🙂

The Government of Canada is presently accepting applications for funding from organizations interested in receiving financial assistance for the delivery of Opportunities Fund (OF) for Persons with Disabilities – National Projects.  Maximum Grant: up to $100,000 +.  Deadline: November 16th, 2012.

This Call for Proposals targets projects with organizations acting as Community Coordinators in partnership with business organisations representing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Eligible activities include Wage Subsidies to small and medium sized enterprises as well as Employer Awareness activities.

The objective of the OF program is to provide organizations with funding to support people with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining and keeping employment or becoming self-employed, thereby increasing their economic participation and independence. This supports the Government of Canada’s overarching goals of promoting skills development, labour market participation and inclusiveness as well as ensuring labour market efficiency.

The main objectives of this CFP are to encourage SMEs to hire people with disabilities, who are ready for employment, but whom they would not normally hire in the absence of subsidy; and also to increase employer awareness of the capabilities of people with disabilities and promote the hiring of these workers.

Who Can Apply?

  • Businesses
  • Organizations (including not-for-profit)
  • Individual people with disabilities
  • Public health and educational institutions
  • Band or tribal councils
  • Municipal governments

Also, please note that proposals to the Local and regional projects stream are accepted on an ongoing basis.  This funding helps organizations create local or regional projects involving eligible activities.
