Call for Proposals: Centre of Excellence for Matrimonial Real Property on Reserves

CFP on Matrimonial Real Property issuesHi Funds Fans!  It’s been another banner week for First Nation funding.  Here’s an interesting Call for Proposals intended to address a serious issue on reserves; Matrimonial Real Property.

The Government intends to establish the Centre of Excellence for Matrimonial Real Property to assist with the implementation of the Family Homes on Reserves or Matrimonial Interests or Rights Act, should it pass. The Centre of Excellence will support First Nations in developing their own matrimonial real property laws or to effectively implement the provisional federal rules once in force, and provide assistance with creating alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The Centre will focus on disseminating knowledge to First Nation individuals, communities and organizations to assist them in understanding and implementing the legislation.

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) will select a national First Nation organization to host the Centre of Excellence through a call for proposals process. Should your organization choose to submit a proposal, please ensure that it is complete and includes all information required for a comprehensive evaluation in accordance with the criteria described in the call for proposals posted at the link above.  The deadline for submitting proposals is Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. Ottawa time. No extensions will be granted.
