Welcome to December, Funds Fans!  Today we have a deadline alert for First Nation organizations and communities.

Canadian Heritage (CH) is committed to improving the quality of life of Aboriginal Peoples and supporting their full participation and cultural revitalization in Canadian society. Programs and initiatives apply to such diverse areas as languages, broadcasting, heritage, women and youth. Their policy and research further focuses on Aboriginal cultures, languages, and identity, and the unique place of Aboriginal societies within Canada.

Aboriginal Peoples, their cultures and their contributions lie at the heart of Canadian identity. CH works with Aboriginal Peoples, primarily off-reserve, to celebrate and strengthen their cultural distinctiveness as an integral part of Canadian diversity.

Canadian Heritage Aboriginal Peoples’ Program is now accepting applications for three funding streams under the Aboriginal Women’s Programming Elements (AWPE) category.  Grants range from: $25,000+.  Deadline: December 12th, 2012. 

Proposals will be considered on the following themes:

  • Women’s Community Initiatives (WCI) –Supports Aboriginal women’s projects that address issues affecting them and their families, and that contribute to strengthening their cultural identity and traditions.
  • Family Violence Initiative (FVI) – Supports community-based culturally- appropriate approaches to addressing the issue of family and violence within Aboriginal families.
  • Women’s Self Government Participation Initiative (WSGP) – Supports Aboriginal women’s participation in self-government design and advancement.
