NEW: Arts Funding for BC communities and First Nations!

Arts Funding!Hello again, Funds Fans!  The funding well seems to be brimming thus far in 2013 and that’s a good thing.  Today, we have something new from BC’s Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

For 2012/13, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development has developed two new funding programs to support the creative and innovative capacity of B.C. artists and cultural organizations, First Nations band councils and friendship centres as they encourage participation in creative activity, improve the quality of life, create community identity and a sense of place, and contribute to local economies.

The BC Creative Communities Program (BCCC) helps arts and cultural organizations get more British Columbians involved in creative activities in their communities, including festivals and special exhibitions.  Maximum grant available is up to $25,000.  Deadline: Friday, February 15th, 2013.  A limited number of one-time-only grants will enable non-profit community and professional arts organizations to work with professional artists to:

  • Implement new, targeted community engagement arts activities;
  • Produce milestone anniversary celebrations, such as historic community anniversaries; or
  • Undertake cultural mapping projects.

The BC Creative Spaces Program (BCCS) helps address the unique challenges faced by arts and cultural organizations in improving the physical conditions for engaging British Columbians in creative activities.  Maximum grant: up to $25,000 for purchase of specialized equipment.  Up to $50,000 for the development of new spaces or improvement of existing facilities.  Deadline:  February 15th, 2013.  A limited number of one-time-only capital grants are available to assist non-profit community and professional arts organizations based throughout the province in:

  • The development of new spaces;
  • Improvements to existing facilities; or
  • The acquisition of specialized equipment.

Note:  Applicants may apply to either the BC Creative Communities program or BC Creative Spaces program, but not both.
