Mark your calendars! Sport grants opening soon

BC sport fundingHeads up, all you sporty, athletic people (and those who love them).

In February and March, viaSport will be opening a number of grant programs that will encourage sport participation across the province. Funding will be available for new and exisiting sport programs, communtities in northern BC, Aboriginal sport programs and provincial to international events hosted in BC.

The Local Sport Program Development Fund allows community sport to be more accessible to people of all abilities by providing funding support to sport programs initiated by municipalities, sport organizations and Aboriginal communities.  Opening Date: February 4, 2013  Deadline: March 4, 2013

The Northern BC Strategy Equipment Grant Program was created in collaboration with the Province of British Columbia and viaSport. Communities in Northern British Columbia (BC Games Zones 7 and 8) will be invited to apply for funds that will help purchase sport equipment on the playing field or equipment that will help sport delivery. This one-time grant is a localized investment to support athlete and coach development in the region leading up to the 2015 Canada Winter Games hosted in Prince George. The Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund supports programs which encourage BC’s Aboriginal youth to participate in physical activity and sport.   Opening Date: March 1 , 2013  Deadline: April 1, 2013

The Hosting BC grant program provides funding to sport event organizers to facilitate sport, economic, social and community development. Since 2004, close to $3.7 million has been invested in 462 sport events in communities across BC developing a legacy of sport hosting expertise.  Opening Date: March 1 , 2013  Deadline: April 1, 2013

Please also note that the Community Gaming Grant application intake for sport opens on February 1, 2013 with a new, simplified option for sport organizations applying for the same amounts as they received in the previous year. These changes are in response to the input received by the Community Gaming Grant Review by Skip Triplett, the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch of the BC Government.  Deadline: May 31, 2013.

If your sport organization falls under any or all of the following bullets, the new “short form” application may be completed and submitted in hardcopy via mail:

  • The organization received gaming funds in the previous year.
  • The organization is not applying for new project funding.
  • The organization is not asking for an increased amount in funding.
