NOW OPEN: Aboriginal Language Immersion Funding 

FPCC language immersion fundingGood day Funds Fans!  For those of you interested in the revitalization of Aboriginal languages in B.C., here’s a great opportunity.

The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC), the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation (MARR) and the New Relationship Trust (NRT) have come together in support of First Nations language and culture revitalization strategies through the Master-Apprentice Program.  Deadline: June 14th, 2013.

Program Goals:

  • To facilitate the development of fluent speakers of B.C. First Nations languages through a Master-Apprentice program where fluent speakers are partnered with committed language learners in a one-on-one immersion environment in the home and on the land
  • To identify fluent speakers supportive of language transmission (masters)
  • To identify committed learners with demonstrated capacity and commitment to language revitalization (apprentices)
  • To create increased fluency in an apprentice who will then pass on his/her knowledge to other learners


  • B.C. First Nations language teams (one master and one apprentice per team)
  • Masters – must be fluent language speakers
  • Apprentices – committed language learners with a willingness to learn immersion techniques and take leadership in her/his own learning
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget and successfully report on project activities and expenditures
