BIG $ for Combating Discrimination: Indigenous Peoples, LGBTI, Religious Beliefs, Infanticide of Girls

EU Funding: Combatting Discrimination

Hi Funds Fans!  Here’s a great start to your Monday.  Big funding from the European Commission to combat discrimination around the world.

Recent years have seen an outburst of violence and human rights abuses, in particular, against indigenous peoples, LGBTI people, persons discriminated on the grounds of religion or belief (or non-belief), and the worst discrimination suffered by girl infants, leading to girls’ infanticide.

The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to reinforce the EIDHR fight against discrimination.  This is a restricted Call for Proposals. In the first instance, only Concept Notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, applicants whose Concept Notes have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a Full Application Form.

Minimum Grant: EUR$300,000.  Maximum Grant: EUR$1,000,000.  Deadline: August 8th, 2013 at 16h, Brussels’ date and time.  (EU contribution could cover up to 95 % of the total eligible costs.)  No nationality restriction applies to applicants, co-applicants and, if any, affiliated entities.

In the four funding streams, added value will be given to proposals that:

1. Pay special attention to persons with disabilities belonging to the targeted groups described above

2. Propose innovative activities such as – whenever possible – the involvement of traditional/tribal/religious leaders and local authorities in fighting discrimination against the targeted groups described above

3. Focus on the needs and challenges faced by the targeted groups living outside the capitals and in remote areas.

In order to be eligible for a grant, the applicant must:

• be a natural person or an entity without legal personality or

• be a legal person and

• be non-profit-making and be specific types of organizations6 such as civil society organizations, including non-governmental organizations and independent political foundations, community based organizations, and private sector agencies/institutions/organizations, and their networks and

• be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicants and, if any, affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.
