NEW: Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund

West Coast Environmental Law is dedicated to safeguarding the environment through law.  Since 1974 their staff lawyers have successfully worked with communities, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and all levels of governments, including First Nations governments, to develop proactive legal solutions to protect and sustain the environment.  Their Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund provides financial support to people who would not otherwise be able to afford to engage the law to resolve their environmental disputes.

The Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund provides support for legal work and associated costs only.  While they do not set specific limits on the amount of EDRF funding awarded, the average size of an EDRF Grant is $5,000Deadlines:  December 9th, 2013; January 13th, 2014; February 11th, 2014; March 10th, 2014; April 7th, 2014

Funding covers legal expenses such as:

  • Lawyer’s fees to a maximum of $80 per hour.
  • Expert fees, as required by the lawyer, at a rate to be negotiated on a case by case basis.
  • Reasonable Disbursements.
  • All Applicable Taxes.
