Sports funding galore! Coaches, apprentices, participants

Sports funding in B.C.Good day, Funds Fans!  No matter where you are in B.C. today, you are likely cuddled up with a hot cuppa of something or other 🙂  and here’s a bit of news to warm your sporting hearts ❤

Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development FundDeadline: January 3rd, 2014.  The Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund provides funding to reduce the cost of enhanced training opportunities and/or certification courses that increase accessibility to coaching and officiating development.  The Fund is open to individual coaches and officials, community groups and Provincial Sports Organizations, in summer and winter sports, that reside in a northern community within BC Game Zones 7 and 8. Eligible applicants are invited to either host or attend a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) course, an Officials certification course or other mentoring or training development opportunities that will increase the knowledge of those who commit many hours to youth through sport.

2015 Canada Games Mentorship ProgramDeadline January 19th, 2014.  Team BC has an opportunity to include a female apprentice coach and an aboriginal apprentice coach in two sports each (4 coaches total) for the 2015 Canada Winter Games being held in Prince George, BC, February 13th – March 1st, 2015.  The Apprentice coach will become part of the team’s Canada Games coaching staff (in addition to the number of positions indicated in the Canada Games technical package and have full access to field of play at the Games).  Travel to the Games as well as accommodations and meals in the athletes’ village will be provided.  Team BC will provide a ceremonial uniform and integrate the Apprentice coach in all Team BC functions and meetings, and support the Apprentice’s coach education.  Up to two female coaches and two aboriginal coaches from each province and territory will be selected.

BC Games Women in Coaching ProgramDeadline to apply for Summer Games is March 17th, 2014.  The Coaching Mentor/Apprenticeship Program (for female Apprentices) is a partnership between ViaSport, ProMOTION Plus, and the BC Games Society. The program was developed to assist and support female coaches in their pursuit of higher levels of coaching certification. This program is designed to assist and support them as they enhance and develop their coaching skills.  Program Benefits:

  • Funding is available up to $200 per person for each mentor and apprentice pair of coaches.
  • Travel, accommodation, and meals at the BC Games will be provided through the BC Games Society.
  • Full accreditation as team staff (in addition to the team staff limit for each sport) at the BC Games.

Mark your calendars:  The next intake for Funding for Girls and Women in Sport (the Girls Only (GO) and Forever Active Bodies (FAB) 55+ grants) opens on January 6th, 2014.
