Sports funding in B.C.Hey Funds Fans!  Fyi… ViaSport administers sport-related grant programs funded by the government of BC that encourage sport participation and healthy living, develop high-performance athletes and improve delivery of sport and recreation programs to benefit all residents.  Current calls for application are open under the following themes:

Hosting BC:   The Province of BC through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development invests in event hosting and the Hosting BC program to facilitate sport, economic, and community development. Eligible applicants are invited to apply for Hosting BC funding of up to $35,000 depending on the type of event.  Deadline:  February 18, 2014 for events taking place between April 1, 2014 – July 31, 2015.

Local Sport Program Development: The Local Sport Program Development Fund makes community sport more accessible to people of all abilities by providing funding to sport programs delivered by local sport organizations, municipalities and Aboriginal communities. Eligible applicants are invited to apply for funding of up to $2,000 for new and expanded programs that directly lead to new sport participation opportunities in their communities.  Deadline: February 11th, 2014.

Girls Only:  The Girls Only grant category was developed to provide opportunities for girls and women in all regions of BC to participate in sport and integrate regular activity into their lives. Organizations can apply for the Girls Only grant to support the development and delivery of sport programs that benefit girls and women of all ages.  Maximum grant: $2,000.  Deadline: February 11th, 2014.

Forever Active Bodies (FAB) 55+:  The FAB 55+ grant was developed to provide opportunities specific to women aged 55 and older in all regions of BC to help target an audience that does not receive the same level of opportunity and access to sport that their younger counterparts now have.  FAB 55+ provides funding for programs specifically geared towards getting senior women active and participating in sport programming that overcomes barriers and stigmas surrounding women in sport.  Maximum grant: $2,000.  Deadline: February 11th, 2014.

BC Ferries and viaSport British Columbia recognize that travel is often a barrier to amateur sport teams as they seek competitive opportunities for their athletes.  To assist in removing this barrier, the BC Ferries Sport Experience Program, has been developed to provide travel support to not-for-profit sport organizations. Through this exciting program, BC Ferries and viaSport British Columbia will assist with ferry travel costs for eligible athletes.  Applications for ferry vouchers must be received at least 12 business days before first day of travel.

Other sport-related funding was posted the other day from the GoodLife Kids Foundation.  They are accepting requests for funding from registered charities and other qualified donees that provide opportunities for kids to benefit from an active life.  If your organization offers a sustainable physical activity program for kids ages 4 to 14 that will positively impact their present and future activity levels, then please review their Grant Program Criteria and apply using their online application form. Grants up to $10,000.  Deadline: January 31, 2014.

Don’t forget that the January Deadline Alert is jam packed with other funding opportunities and I recently posted about funding for diabetes program support as well as for projects related to the preservation and revitalization of Aboriginal languages for the benefit of Aboriginal peoples and other Canadians.
