Deadline Alert: Sport funding for BC

Sports funding in B.C.

Funding up to $30,000 is available from the BC Sport Participation Program (BCSPP) administered through viaSport. Deadline to apply: March 31, 2017.  Eligible organizations include:

  • Recognized or Accredited Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs)
  • Recognized or Accredited Disability Sport Organizations (DSOs)
  • Multi-regional delivery agencies or organizations that demonstrate the ability to successfully reach a significant or specific target group and are provincial in their orientation (i.e. Boys and Girls club, Scouts, Big Brothers/Sisters, etc.)

The goal of the BCSPP is to support the development of new programs or needed expansion of existing sport participation programs to different communities or target populations that align with Canadian Sport for Life FUNdamental, Learn to Train, and Active for Life stages, as well as the Awareness or First Contact stages. Programs will develop linkages with local sport service providers, clubs, and schools, to build community capacity and expand programming to attract new participants to sport and increase the number of individuals actively involved in organized sport on an ongoing basis.

In another funding stream, micro grants from $300 to $1,000 are available through ParticipACTION and viaSport who have teamed up to deliver a micro-granting program that will support not for profit community organizations, schools and municipalities who are planning to deliver 150 Play List programs and events in 2017. The programs or events should be inclusive, open to all free of charge, or at a minimal cost, and give the participants the opportunity to complete one or more of the physical activities on the 150 Play List.

These micro grants can support qualified instructors, equipment, marketing and promotion and other costs that will make the program or event even more impactful.  Examples of eligible on-going programs (at least 4 weeks) and events include: weekly try-it sessions, multi-sport or multi-activity programs, open-houses, tournaments, mayor’s challenges, try-it days, neighborhood fun runs, or multi-organizational events.  Apply by April 24, 2017.
